Glimmer
The inspiration for the title was that after I joined Baltimore's ArtMobile forum in 1996.
I couldn't help but notice the various statements about conservative policies being "Orwellian" in nature.
My curiosity being piqued, I decided to read what Orwell wrote about.
My problems here began when I started to share what he'd said.
As a democratic socialist, Orwell was certainly no friend to conservatives.
What was interesting though, was that he was equally critical of leftist politics, something the forum,
including moderator Richard Ellersby, didn't want to hear about.
The reason Orwell did this, was because he believed that the only way to stop animosity and hatred of others,
was to report facts accurately, without propaganda, falsifications, or lies.
In becoming a pariah, I soon experienced first-hand what Orwell was referring to, which radically changed my view of artists, the art scene, and politics in general.
In the same spirit of which 1984 was a warning to the world,
"Portent" is a similar warning of what our society could possibly become.
12th track on my initial "steam-of-consciousness" CD, Keyboard Mania.
