Desk Spider
My latest submission to the Baltimore Composers Forum: trio for soprano saxophone / viola / piano.
After coming home from a late rehearsal, I noticed this small spider on the desk, between the lamp and the wall. Not having an overt fear of arachnids, I just switched off the lamp an went to bed. Next morning it was still there, gently twisting back and forth from the breeze of a small electric fan I had on. I wondered at this, having assumed it had constructed itself a web - but in actuality, it was hanging from a single thread. Intrigued, I got my camera and began to shoot, but apparently the flash bothered the spider, because soon it lowered itself below the desk. I thought that was that, but it was back the next day. After that however, it was gone, off doing whatever it is a spider does. The Desk Spider describes this experience in four movements - around 8-minutes.
